Boiling heat transfer correlation for carbon dioxide.

Summary

In this study a boiling heat transfer correlation for carbon dioxide is investigated. For this purpose, Bredesen’s experimental data and six existing correlations (Chen, Bennett-Chen, Gungor- Winston, Shah, Schrock-Grossman, and Liu-Winterton’s correlations) are compared. These correlations except Bennett-Chen’s correlation can not be applied to carbon dioxide due to the different thermophysical properties of carbon dioxide from conventional fluids which satisfy these correlations reasonably. To reduce the deviation between experimental data and Bennett-Chen s correlation, a Modified Bennett-Chen correlation is suggested This Modified Bennett-Chen correlation well agree with Bredesen’s experimental data over a wide range of mass flux and heat flux. Though this new correlation offers better accuracy for carbon dioxide than other correlations, this correlation is only based on one source of experimental data. Therefore more detailed investigation is required with the integration of a wide range of experimental data.
