Summary

Over the last years whole-body cryotherapy gains an increasing interest both in wellness and medicine. Moreover, it tends to switch from the liquid nitrogen-fed devices to fully-electric. This helps to simplify the logistics and maintenance, but on the other put a limit on the treatment temperatures to around -110°C which is achievable by commercially available electric cryochambers. CryoScience Ltd. has grounded an ambitious R&D project to break this limit allowing it to carry the treatments in temperatures as low as -140°C. Moreover it was shown that by means of non-flammable mixed-refrigerant it is possible to reach temperatures of even -186°C at significant heat load. The paper presents the main challenges, findings of the carried project as well as future perspectives of developed technology.
