Number: pap. 556

Author(s) : HERMANS T., DAMIEN A.

Summary

Since 2007, the Brussels-Capital Region has launched five calls for Exemplary Building projects which have resulted in 193 prize-winning projects. The short-term objective of this exercise is not only to build or renovate energy-efficient buildings in an environmentally friendly fashion but to end up with a series of examples that are technically and financially reproducible. To illustrate this unique initiative, we shall give you a brief rundown on the history and the context of the “exemplary buildings” concept. Next, we shall proffer a definition of the “exemplary buildings” selection criteria, dwell a little on how they have evolved and give you an overview of the projects that ensued, from the various new or renovated low-energy to passive and “zero energy” buildings!
