Author(s) : FILIPPI M.
Type of article: Article
Summary
In the past thirty years, the building envelope has technologically become increasingly complex and, with the new bio-climatic and sustainable approaches, new solutions are now proposed which increase construction and management costs. The author critically analyses the situation in order to understand how we have got to this point. He examines the three existing types of envelope which are known as "passive", "active" and "hybrid". He also tackles the problem of designing complex building envelopes in terms of the adequacy of technological solutions and the awareness of the results which can be achieved.
