Building equipment energy efficiency regulations.

Author(s) : BOUMA J. W. J.

Summary

The IEA Heat Pump Programme has earmarked support for the development and the international harmonization of standards and regulations for heat pumping equipment as a key strategy. The IEA Heat Pump Centre has contributed to this strategy by conducting an international study on energy efficiency regulations and labelling requirements for HVAC equipment in buildings. The study found that energy efficiency regulations for heat pumping equipment is confined to a few countries only. Comprehensive energy efficiency regulation is mainly a North American activity and standards suggest that they have a limited benefit, although it is difficult to make a firm judgement at this early stage.
