Summary

THE HYDRODYNAMIC PECULIARITIES OF THE OPERATION OF FILM HEAT AND MASS EXCHANGERS WITH VERTICAL SHEETS FILLING WITH SURFACES OF IRREGULAR ROUGHNESS ARE STUDIED. THE OPTIMAL ROUGHNESS PARAMETERS ARE SHOWN. AN EXPRESSION IS GIVEN FOR DETERMINING THE AVERAGE THICKNESS OF THE LIQUID FILM, THE AMPLITUDE OF STATIONARY WAVES AND THE CONDITIONS FOR THE EXISTENCE OF MAXIMUM AMPLITUDES ARE REPORTED. THE RESULTS AGREE WELL WITH TEST DATA. AN EXAMPLE OF CALCULATION OF A UNIT OPERATING IN EVAPORATIVE COOLING UNDER OPTIMUM CONDITIONS IS GIVEN.
