Summary

EXPERIMENTAL APPARATUS, CONSISTING OF A STAGGERED BUNDLE WITH A TUBE ARTIFICIALLY ROUGHENED, EG, WITH SAND PAPER, WAS USED TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF THE HEIGHT OF THE ROUGHNESS ON THE LOCAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FLOW OF LIQUID AT THE SURFACE AND IN THE SPACE BETWEEN TUBES. VELOCITY PROFILES OF THE LIQUID AND DRAG COEFFICIENTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS WERE OBTAINED. THE GREATEST DEFORMATION OF THE VELOCITY PROFILE BY THE ROUGHNESS WAS OBSERVED TO OCCUR IN THE REGION OF THE WALL WHERE A POSITIVE PRESSURE GRADIENT OCCURRED.
