Cascading sorption machines: new concepts for the power control of solid-gas thermochemical systems.

Summary

A new-triple effect sorption heat pump is being realised in the framework of a French-German collaboration. The machine consists of a high temperature chemical reactor, thermally cascaded to a double-effect absorption plant. A high refrigeration efficiency is possible in this triple-effect machine, and COP values in the order of 1.35 to 1.55 should be attainable. But the absorption plant operates continuously, while the chemical reactor works discontinuously and in an unstationary way. The problem lies therefore in the control of the energy flow. With the objective of a continuous cold production, at an interesting power level, it is thus necessary to control the power level delivered by the chemical reactor during the synthesis reaction. To control the variations in the power of the reaction, several classical solutions are presented.
