Characteristics of two phase flow by dynamic image analysis in a plate heat exchanger.

Number: 1043

Author(s) : HYODO S., KARIYA K., MIYARA A.

Summary

In the technical field of refrigeration and air-conditioning, plate heat exchangers are getting attention due to their compactness and high thermal efficiency for utilizing HFO refrigerants. Although these were mainly designed for liquid single-phase heat exchanger, its application was extended to two phase heat exchangers such as condensers and evaporators. In two phase flow of the plate heat exchanger, maldistribution of liquid and vapor phase, which causes deterioration of boiling and condensation heat transfer occurs at the width direction of the channel. In this study, observation and dynamic image analysis of upward and downward two phase flow in the acrylic plate heat exchanger channel were conducted using high-speed camera in order to clarify flow characteristics and obtain the value of the mean void fraction of the channel.
