Summary

Although it has a potentially huge consumer market, China presents several challenges to exporters. China is the largest producer of vegetables in the world. Total export value was almost USD 100 MM for canned fruits and USD 370 MM for canned vegetables. Quick-frozen vegetables, which enjoy an increasing popularity in domestic and export market, increased 3-fold to 0.16 MM tonnes, with an export value of more than USD 100 MM, from 1989 to 1993.
