CO2 scroll compressor with dynamic vapor injection integrated into transcritical refrigeration systems – a theoretical assessment.

Number: 0149

Author(s) : DICKES R., WINANDY E.

Summary

This paper reports different refrigeration system layouts integrating CO2 scroll compressors with Dynamic Vapour Injection (DVI). Two main configurations are differentiated, namely flash tank-based and economizer-based architectures. For both implementations, the mechanisms leading to performance improvements are described, so as the pros and cons of integrating liquid or gas ejectors. To highlight the performance improvement potential of each system architecture, a COP comparison versus a traditional flash-gas by-pass system is performed for both standard cooling and heat recovery operations.
