CO2: an old new refrigerant.

Author(s) : KASPER G., HALOZAN H.

Summary

The international intentions to phase out the CFCs require the search for alternatives. One of these alternatives is carbon dioxide, which has been introduced as refrigerant more than one hundred years ago. At the Institute of Thermal Engineering a prototype of a heat pump water heater using CO2 as refrigerant has been designed and constructed.
