CO2 heat pump for drying applications.

Eine Trocknungswärmepumpe mit dem Arbeitsstoff Kohlendioxid.

Summary

The authors describe a prototype of a clothes dryer using a completely closed hot-air circuit with a CO2 heat pump under transcritical conditions; the condenser is used to heat the flowing air and the evaporator is used to condense the water evaporated inside the drying drum. Excess heat is removed using a cold-water circuit and an exchanger downstream from the condenser. The results demonstrate that this system achieves energy savings in comparison with a classic dryer heated using an electrical resistance.
