THE APPLICATIONS OF COGENERATION ARE SPREADING OVER JAPAN AT AN ACCELERATED RATE: TOTAL ELECTRIC POWER AMOUNTS NOW TO ABOUT 900 MW (RANKINE CYCLE EXCEPTED), MOST OF WHICH HAS BEEN INSTALLED DURING LAST TWO YEARS. CRSJ ORGANIZES SEVERAL ACTIVITIES AIMED AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUCH TECHNOLOGY. AMONG THEM, THE FOLLWING RESEARCH PROGRAMS ARE WORTH MENTIONING: I) THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ADVANCED DIESEL ENGINE WITH HIGH EFFICIENCY AND LOW EMISSION OF POLLUTANTS ; II) THE SETTING UP OF A PACKAGED TOTAL ENERGY SYSTEM, COMPOSED OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE WITH HEAT RECOVERY AND AN ABSORPTION REFRIGERATING MACHINE ; III) THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ADVANCED GAS-TURBINE ENGINE WITH CERAMIC MATERIALS.
