Summary

Absorption refrigerating machines have been somewhat neglected in recent years. But new two-stage processes, and the use of water as refrigerant herald a renewal of them. When connected to a heating-power plant unit they can even constitute an alternative to normal machines with mechanical compressors. Part one presents the principle of absorption and the development history of absorption cold production. Part two details the functioning of an absorption refrigerating plant. Part three discusses certain equipment (purge recovery devices and circulation pumps), energy efficiency of absorption plants, their possible applications, and their system design features.
