Comparative study of the transient temperature and thermal stress distributions during cryosurgery: the novel combined cryosurgery-hyperthermia cryoprobe versus the Endocare cryoprobe.

Author(s) : ZHAO G., HE Q., LIU Z. F., et al.

Summary

In order to explore the new features of the novel combined cryosurgery/hyperthermia cryoprobe from the viewpoint of thermal stress, the heat transfer and thermal stress problems during the common cryosurgery process using this cryoprobe and the Endocare cryoprobe were comparatively studied. The enthalpy form of the classical bioheat equation coupled with the stress equations was solved by using the commercial software Ansys (version 7.0). The tissues were treated as nonideal materials freezing over a temperature range, and the thermophysical and mechanical properties of which were temperature dependent. The model was verified using the finite difference method put forward by us recently. The two kinds of cryoprobes capable of heating during the rewarming process, i.e. the novel combined cryosurgery/hyperthermia cryoprobe and the Endocare cryoprobe, were then studied using the verified model.
