Summary

Ice storage system has ever been used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system widely. But the coefficient of performance (COP) of chiller during charging mode is much lower because the charging temperature of ice storage is lower. Microencapsulated phase change material slurry (MPCS) has more advantages than ice, when used as energy storage medium in HVAC sys-tem of buildings. A general review on application of MPCS for thermal energy storage in HVAC system is carried out first in this paper. Then exergy analyses for 4 kinds of HVAC systems with MPCs and ice for thermal energy storage have been compared. An office room is the research ob-ject and calculation is based on 1kW cooling load. The results show that the low temperature air supply system has the highest exergy efficiency. And for the conventional air supply systems, the higher efficiency is with higher secondary refrigerant temperature.
