Summary

In this work, the energetic behavior of compressor types was investigated and an evaluation method was developed to compare them under variable load profiles and locations. The numerous compressor maps, locations and load profiles lead to a very large number of possible combinations. For the efficient evaluation a freely available compressor tool has been developed which compares the different compressor types. The core of the tool is a database with compressor polynomials of more than 1400 compressors from different manufactures. The same compressor types from different manufacturers we grouped together to represent an average energy performance. Compressor characteristic maps were created which visualize the behavior of each compressor type as well as their application limits and control range. An evaluation method is used to determine the seasonal energy efficiency of the different compressor types depending on the location, load profile and application. The method is based on several operating points, which are weighted according to their energetic share of the annual consumption. Based on the maps, the seasonal efficiency of the compressor types is determined and ranked.
