Summary

THE RESULTS OF COMPUTATIONS OF THE COOLING CAPACITY, THE POWER CONSUMPTION AND PRESSURE PULSES OF VUILLEUMIER AND STIRLING TYPE REFRIGERATORS OPERATING ADIABATICALLY ARE PRESENTED. THE ACTUAL OPERATING REGIME FOR MOST SUCH REFRIGERATORS IS THE ADIABATIC ONE, RATHER THAN THE ISOTHERMAL ONE. A COMPARISON OF THE NUMERICAL RESULTS FOR TYPICAL REFRIGERATORS OPERATING IN THE TWO REGIMES SHOWS THAT THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM, AND THESE CAN BE IMPORTANT FOR THE DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF PRACTICAL REFRIGERATORS.
