Compatible solutes improve cryopreservation of human endothelial cells.

Summary
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is widely used but in high concentrations adversely affects cell functioning. Compatible solutes were therefore used to reduce DMSO concentration. L-proline and ectoine showed potential and could be used as additional cryoprotective agents that improve the cryopreservation of human endothelial cells in the presence of low DMSO concentration.
