COMPOSITION DESIGNATIONS FOR REFRIGERANTS.

Type of article: Article

Summary

FOLLOWING THE USE OF PREFIXES, SUCH AS CFC RATHER THAN ROR REFRIGERANT, PARTICULARLY WHEN POPULAR TOPICS SUCH AS OZONE DEPLETION OR GLOBAL WARMING ARE DEBATED, THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THE NEED FOR STANDARDIZATION. VARIOUS ALTERNATIVES ARE SURVEYED WITH THE RECENT GUIDELINES OF ASHRAE STANDARDS COMMITTEE BEING RECOMMENDED AS THE MOST PRACTICAL. THIS ARGUES FOR A CONTINUATION OF ROR REFRIGERANT FOR THE INTERNATIONAL REFRIGERATION AND ALLIED INDUSTRIES, BACKED BY THE MORE DESCRIPTIVE COMPOSITION LETTERS OF C FOR CARBON, PRECEDED BYH B, C, OR F, IN THIS SEQUENCE, TO SIGNIFY HYDROGEN, BROMINE, CHLORINE, OR FLUORINE. A STANDARDS PROJECT COMMITTEE IS BEING FORMED TO REVIEW AND REVISE STANDARD 34-1989 ACCORDINGLY. D.W.H.
