Author(s) : BERES E.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THIS PAPER SURVEYS THE GENERAL POSITION REGARDING CHLOROFLUOROCARBONS (CFCS), AND OTHER GREENHOUSE EFFECT GASES WHICH MAY BE CAUSING STRATOSPHERIC OZONE DEPLETION AND GLOBAL WARMING. THE DEBATE CONCERNS THE LACK OF DEFINITE INFORMATION ON THE COMPLEX PROCESSES INVOLVED, THE POSSIBILITY OF PHASING IN ALTERNATIVE GASES OF LESSPOTENTIAL DANGER, AND RESTRICTING THE USE OF CFCS. THE USA HAS ALREADY BANNED CFCS FOR AEROSOL PROPELLANTS. OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL USES MAY FOLLOW. D.W.H.
