COMPRESSOR FAILURES IN COMMERCIAL REFRIGERATING SYSTEMS.

Author(s) : SORENSEN G.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE SYSTEM PROBLEMS WHICH RESULT IN COMPRESSOR FAILURE. IN THE MAIN, THESE COME UNDER THE HEADINGS OF EXTREME DISCHARGE PRESSURE, AND LIQUID HAMMER. THE FORMER IS OFTEN CAUSED BY A BLOCKAGE IN THE HIGH PRESSURE SIDE OF THE SYSTEM, NOTABLY A DRIER OR THE CAPILLARY TUBE. ALTERNATIVELY, FAILURE OF THE CONDENSER FANS OR LACK OF PUMP-OVER CAPACITY MAY PRODUCE INSUFFICIENT CONDENSATION. THE LATTER MAY BE LIQUID REFRIGERANT RETURN OR OIL FOAMING. SOLUTIONS TO THESE PROBLEMS ARE SUGGESTED. D.W.H.
