Summary

THE ARTICLE CONTAINS A SIMPLIFIED EXPLANATION OF THE MECHANICS OF WATER VAPOUR CONDENSATION ON COLD SURFACES. IT RECOMMENDS THAT A COMPUTER PROGRAM OPERATED BY AN INSULATION MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE USED TO DETERMINE THE THICKNESS OF COLD PIPELINE INSULATION FOR ANY SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENT AND PIPE TEMPERATURE. CLOSED CELL INSULANTS ARE PREFERRED, PARTICULARLY THOSE IN WHICH CELL WALLS ARE IMPERMEABLE TO WATER VAPOUR. THE MATERIAL SHOULD ALSO BE FIRE RETARDANT AND OF A FOAM TYPE BLOWN BY OZONE FRIENDLY BLOWING AGENTS. D.W.H.
