Summary

THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES ARE CONSIDERED SIMULTANEOUSLY: TO MINIMIZE THE TOTAL VOLUME OF INSULATING MATERIAL OF THE WHOLE SYSTEM AND THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF HEAT LOSS FROM THE WHOLE SYSTEM. A SET OF PARETO OPTIMAL SOLUTIONS IS DERIVED FOR THE MULTIOBJECTIVE NONLINEAR OPTIMIZATION PROBLEM. FOR MORE COMPLEX PIPING SYSTEMS, A COMPUTER-AIDED INTERACTIVE PLANNING SYSTEM IS DEVELOPED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF DECOMPOSITION AND COORDINATION IN THE THEORY OF HIERARCHICAL MULTILEVEL SYSTEMS. THE VALIDITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THIS METHOD ARE ASCERTAINED THROUGH THE NUMERICAL CALCULATION FOR SEVERAL EXAMPLES. (BULL. JSME, JP., 26, N. 217, 1983/07, 1271, 620.001.2: 621.644.
