Condensation of R450A and R454B inside a compact microfin tube.

Summary

The paper explores the condensation heat transfer of two mixtures (R450A and R454B) inside a microfin tube with an outer diameter of 5.0 mm. R450A is a zeotropic mixture made of R1234ze(E) and R134a (0.58/0.42 by mass), whereas R454B is a zeotropic mixture made of R32 and R1234yf (0.689/0.311 by mass). The experimental working conditions can be summarized as follows: mass velocity between 75 and 600 kg m-2 s-1, saturation temperature of 30 and 40 °C, vapor quality from 0.10 to 0.98. The heat transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drops were obtained from the experimental data. The comparison between the two mixtures revealed that R450A shows heat transfer coefficients which are about 15% higher at high vapor qualities, compared to R454B. However, R450A shows higher frictional pressure gradient. Experimental values of heat transfer coefficient and frictional pressure drop were also compared against the values estimated by empirical correlations available in the literature.
