Summary

DESCRIBES AN INVESTIGATION OF THE BEHAVIOUR OF AN R12 REFRIGERATION PLANT INCORPORATING A RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR WITH CYLINDER UNLOADING ACTUATORS. IDENTIFIES PROBLEMS IN IMPLEMENTING CLASSICAL PID CONTROL SYSTEMS AND DEVELOPS A NEW INTELLIGENT CONTROL SYSTEM. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE NEW CONTROL SYSTEM IS SUPERIOR TO PID SYSTEMS. ALTHOUGH THE WORK REFERS TO A LIQUID CHILLING PLANT, THE PRINCIPLES INVOLVED HAVE A WIDER APPLICATION. (INT. BUILD. SERV. ABSTR., GB., 23, N 1, 1988, 15, 88-00124.
