Controlled atmosphere: effect on hard core and quality of kiwifruit.

Atmosfere controllate: influenza sull'hard core e sulla qualita' dell'Actinidia.

Summary

Fruits were stored in 1 of 4 storage conditions for 90, 210 and 180 days and then subjected to physicochemical examination. Storage in a normal atmosphere (21% O2 + 0.03% CO2), a controlled atmosphere (2% O2 + 3% CO2), or ultra low oxigen atmosphere (0.7% O2) with removal of ethylene was compared with ultra low oxygen storage without ethylene removal. Controlled atmosphere storage gave the best results after 180 days of storage in terms of firmness, TSS and acidity. Studies on the effects of storage and ethylene on hard core were inconclusive.
