Summary
The author concludes that improvements in membrane gas separation technology will in the futur provide simple and commercially attractive large-volume controlled-atmosphere systems. In particular, there will be further development in ultra-low-oxygen applications. Improved atmosphere control, possibly integrated into total cargo handling systems, will be developed and most likely be a standard for modern reefer vessels.
