Summary
This paper describes a family of reefer vessel designs. To meet market demand, vessels have to be somewhat pallet-friendly, dedicate to maximum break bulk cargo, be able to accomodate the installation of portable controlled-atmosphere generators, have indirect refrigerating plant with ammonia or R22 step-in as a primary one and brine as a secondary coolant, and of course accomodate as many containers on deck as possible. Problems encountered are similar, regardless of the size of the vessel, but the technical solutions which can be applied vary with size.
