CONTROLLING LEGIONELLA IN COOLING TOWERS.

Summary

THE UBIQUITOUS NATURE OF LEGIONELLA MAKES CONTROL MEASURES DIFFICULT. HOWEVER, BY UNDERSTANDING THE GENERAL SEQUENCE OF EVENTS THAT LEAD TO LEGIONELLOSIS, PREVENTIVE MEASURES CAN BE APPLIED AT DIFFERENT STAGES. FURTHER RESEARCH ON PREVENTING GROWTH OF THE SPECIES IN WATER SOURCES SUCH AS COOLING TOWERS, EVAPORATIVE CONDENSERS AND HOT WATER TANKS MAY LEAD TO BETTER CONTROL MEASURES. MEANWHILE, MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES THAT CONTROL THE BIOLOGIC ACTIVITY OF LEGIONELLAE ARE THE PRIMARY PREVENTIVE MEASURES IN COOLING TOWERS.
