Cooling characteristics of subcooled liquid nitrogen.

Author(s) : SHIN P. K., KIM D. L., YANG H. S., et al.

Summary

In order to clarify appropriate design of subcooled liquid nitrogen cryostat, the authors have performed experiment and numerical analysis on cooling characteristics of subcooled liquid nitrogen. Several states of subcooled liquid nitrogen at 1 atm are obtained by using a GM cryocooler and pressurizing with helium gas. A heater for uniform heat flux is also installed in the liquid nitrogen vessel. The vertical and radial temperature distributions are measured in the liquid nitrogen. The cooling characteristics such as temperature uniformity, natural convection heat transfer phenomena and the cylinder effect are discussed.
