Summary

When process integration is used for recovery of heat between non-simultaneous batch processes, two alternatives are available. The one is recovering heat by direct exchange and rescheduling and the other is recovering heat via heat storage. This paper concerns process integration by use of systems consisting of thermal energy stores (TES) and describes a new procedure for adding the required utility to such systems. The new concept has revealed a large potential for improving the driving force distribution in the TES system implying improvements of economics as well.
