Summary

DESCRIBES A COST ANALYSIS BASED ON A DETAILED SIMULATION PROCEDURE, OF A TWO-TON SYSTEM TO COOL A PROPOSED RESIDENCE IN LIBYA. COMPARES THE ACTUAL COSTS OF A SOLAR ABSORPTION COOLER WITH THOSE OF A VAPOUR COMPRESSION MACHINE. THE SOLAR SYSTEM IS MORE EXPENSIVE BUT ITS POTENTIAL TO OFFSET TWICE THE COOLING LOAD OF ITS RATED CAPACITY IN DRY, ARID CONDITIONS, MAKES IT ECONOMICALLY COMPETITIVE IN ADDITION TO CONSERVING 50% OF FOSSIL FUELS.
