Summary
Capital and energy costs of two systems were calculated for a typical six-floor office building: a cooling ceiling and a variable-volume system. The cooling ceiling was combined with mechanical ventilation. For a specific cooling load of 45-55 watts/m2 and higher, the capital costs of a cooling ceiling can be much lower. Its energy costs are lower when free convection is used.
