Summary

THE SAFETY PROVIDED BY THE CRYO-EXTRACTION OF CYSTALLINE LENS HAS LED TO GENERALISE ITS INDICATIONS FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF CATARACT AND HAS RESULTED IN THE MULTIPLICATION OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF AVAILABLE CRYODES. THESE SHOULD CORRESPOND TO PREREQUISITE CRITERIA: EASY HANDLING, LIGHTNESS, EASY STERILISATION, GOOD INSULATION AND FOOT-CONTROL ; FREEZING AND THAWING SHOULD BE RAPID AND ITERATIVE ; THE CRYOGENIC SOURCE SHOULD BE CONSIDERABLE AND HIGHLY RELIABLE.
