FROM A LABORATORY CURIOSITY IN 1877 CRYOGENICS HAVE BECOME A LARGELY APPLIED TECHNIQUE. HOWEVER, IT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING. SUPERCONDUCTION HAS AN IMPORTANT FUTURE, AS WELL AS CRYOGENIC FUELS. NEW REFRIGERATION CYCLES WILL ALLOW PERHAPS TO REPLACE THE FLUOROCARBONS.
