CRYOPROBES FOR MEDICAL SURGERY. A NEW BLOOD-LESS SURGERY PROCEDURE.

Summary

A CRYOPROBE SYSTEM, BASED ON JOULE-THOMSON EXPANSION OF NITROGEN/CARBON DIOXIDE HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AND DESCRIBED FOR VARIOUS CRYOSURGICAL APPLICATIONS. THE SYSTEM HAS FOUND APPLICATIONS IN THE AREA OF CATARACT, RETINAL DETACHMENT, GLAUCOMA, ENT, GYNAECOLOGY, BRAIN TUMOURS AND PARTICULARLY FOR THE TREATMENT OF MALIGNANT/BENIGNANT TUMOURS. WITH SUCH A PROBE, AN ULTIMATE TEMPERATURE OF ABOUT LESS THAN 248 K (-25 DEG C) HAS BEEN OBTAINED AT A DEPTH OF 4 MM FROM PROBE TIP. IN THE AREA OF MALIGNANT TUMOURS, OUT OF THE TOTAL 100 CASES OVER A PERIOD OF 4 YEARS, 60 CASES HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THE FACE, THROAT AND NECK AREA. IN ANOTHER 100 CASES OF PREMALIGNANT TUMOURS, THERE HAS BEEN ESSENTIALLY NO FAILURE.
