Cryostorage of Aechmea fasciata pollen.

Summary
At a greenhouse humidity of minimum 65% relative humidity and 20 deg C, anther drying (4 hours) is necessary before liquid nitrogen storage of the pollen. After storage pollen should be rehydrated for 1 hour to yield 80 to 90% germinability. This rehydration is not necessary for pollen collected at 75 or 85% relative humidity, but it is beneficial (higher germination percentage). In this way a practical method is developed to store Aechmea pollen in liquid nitrogen, potentially over the long-term.
