Effects of freezing in liquid nitrogen on the properties of a soybean (Glycine max L. var. acme) callus strain used as a bioassay for cytokinin activity.

Author(s) : ENGELMANN F.

Type of article: Article

Summary

A soybean callus strain could withstand cryopreservation after a 14 to 48 hours pregrowth with 1 to 1.5 M sucrose followed by slow freezing at 0.5 deg C/min to -40 deg C before immersion in liquid nitrogen. Cryopreservation did not modify the growth rate of the strain on media containing various concentrations of kinetin and 2-isopentenyl-adenine.
