FIRSTLY, THE REFRIGERANTS WHICH CAN BE USED AS SUBSTITUTES ARE DISCUSSED. SECONDLY, THE RESEARCH CARRIED OUT, ON THIS PROBLEM, AT THE GRAZ UNIVERSITY AND AT THE NATIONAL BUREAU OF STANDARDS IN THE UNITED STATES IS REVIEWED, AS WELL AS THE EXISTING SUBSTITUTES: PURE PRODUCTS, MIXTURES OF REFRIGERANTS, MIXTURES OF AZEOTROPIC REFRIGERANTS, MIXTURES OF NON AZEOTROPIC PRODUCTS, MEDIUM TERM SUBSTITUTES AND LON MT THEN, THE SUBSTITUTES ARE ASSESSED FROM THE POINTS OF VIEW OF PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE AND OF THE UTILISATION OF ENERGY AND VOLUME. FINALLY, THE PROBLEMS ARISING FROM THE USE OF SUBSTITUTES ARE DISCUSSED. R.R.
