Summary

Thermo-Catalytic Decomposition (TCD) of methane offers a scalable, versatile pathway to decarbonize the liquefied natural gas (LNG) value chain by splitting methane into low- emission hydrogen and solid graphitic carbon without producing carbon dioxide. This dual-product process enables deep decarbonization not only in LNG production and transport but also across end-use sectors like steelmaking, power generation, and digital infrastructure. In this paper, we summarize the technical opportunities for emission reductions within the LNG value chain and peek into the opportunities within a few specific industrial applications.
