DESIGN AND OPTIMIZATION OF A REFRIGERATION SYSTEM.

Summary

A PROCEDURE WAS DEVELOPED TO OPTIMIZE THE DESIGN OF REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS CONSIDERING ALTERNATIVE REFRIGERANTS. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO MINIMIZE THE COST OF THE REFRIGERATION SYSTEM, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT ENERGY AND MANUFACTURING COSTS. THE PROCEDURE PROVIDES DESIGN INFORMATION ON THE HEAT EXCHANGERS, COMPRESSOR, AND EXPANSION DEVICES SO THAT A MINIMAL COST REFRIGERATION SYSTEM IS PRODUCED FOR A GIVEN REFRIGERANT. A MULTI-DIMENSIONAL CONSTRAINED NON-LINEAR OPTIMIZATION PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED SO THAT THE PROCEDURE MAY BE IMPLEMENTED ON A PERSONAL COMPUTER. R12, R22, R134A, AND R152A WERE CONSIDERED.
