Summary

In order to scale down the size of a LiBr/H2O absorption heat pump, the compact plate type heat exchanger configuration is utilized to substitute for the shell-tube type heat exchanger configuration in the four essential components (absorber, generator, evaporator and condenser). In the novel heat and mass exchanger reported here, heat medium channels (positive pressure atmosphere) is detachable without the damage to working pair channels (vacuum atmosphere) for the maintenance purpose. A directly-connected overflow solution distributor is proposed to ensure the realization of detachability while keep the uniform solution distribution and stable falling-film flow. An experimental research was conducted to assess thermal performance of the proposed heat and mass exchanger under rated and variable conditions. Experimental results demonstrated the feasibility of a compact plate-type LiBr/H2O absorption heat pump with the implementation of the novel heat and mass exchanger.
