Design, fabrication and performance test of 10 kA current leads for SST-1.

Summary

One pair of conventional current leads to supply 10 kA current to toroidal field coils of SST-1 have been designed, fabricated and tested in house. The special features are simple fabrication techniques and bottom liquid helium (LHe) can and control valve at the top of each lead, making them independent for helium flow control. The lead has a LHe consumption rate of 3.9 l/hr/kA/pair with pressure drop of about 5 mbars at 10 kA current. Each lead is sufficiently instrumented to verify the design parameters. This paper describes the design, fabrication methodology, test stand, and dynamic controls of the LHe level and test results.
