Model coil of the central solenoid.

Bobine modèle du solénoïde central.

Author(s) : GALINDO V.

Summary

Tests on the model coil of the central solenoid are in progress at JAERI, in Naka, Japan. This superconducting coil consisting of 5000 metres of forced-cooled cable and supplied with 46 000 amperes is the result of the cooperation of European, American and Japanese research teams and industrial stakeholders. Its main features are designed to produce a magnetic field of 13 T. Its use enables investigation of the behaviour of the superconducting cables that constitute it, but also the properties of potential cables for the construction of the ITER fusion reactor.
