Design of a new circulation loop based on CO2 hydrate kinetics.

Summary

The objective of this work is to design a new circulation loop with heat exchangers using CO2 hydrate slurries for secondary refrigeration applications. The conception of this pilot flow loop requires an investigation of CO2 hydrate formation kinetics. The first results of CO2 hydrate kinetics with or without additives were equivalent with various systems. The literature related to experimental hydrate slurry flow loop shows that the use of a tank reactor could be necessary to form hydrates continuously. The tank reactor should have a capacity of 50 L, resist to a maximum pressure about 4.5 MPa, and provide a heat flux about 1 to 5 kW.
