Design of a rotary compressor for using R-744 as the refrigerant.

Author(s) : OOI K. T.

Summary

This paper assesses the performance of a compressor which was originally designed for R-22 and is used to run CO2 as the working fluid. In this theoretical study, the detail of the compressor performance in terms of refrigerant flow rate, leakage mass flow, friction loss, compressor torque and valve performance are discussed and shown. The results show that, for a better performed CO2 compressor, it is better to have a shorter cylinder operating at a higher compressor speed than a longer cylinder running at a lower speed.
