Design of a sub-atmospheric heat exchanger for a hundred-watt 2 K system.

Author(s) : WANG L., CHEN A. B., QIAN J., et al.

Summary

A cryogenic system with the hundred-watt refrigeration at 2 K is about to be built in Harbin. A counter-flow heat exchanger is applied to subcool liquid helium at the mass flow rate of about 5 g/s from 4.5 K down to around 2.2 K by enthalpy exchange with the saturated vapour from the cryomodule at 31 mbar. Two kinds of Giauque-Hampson heat exchangers, made of copper tubing and finned copper tubing, respectively, were calculated and analyzed in this paper. The optimization of heat exchanger structure was presented.
