Summary

THE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTION INSIDE A FREEZING SAMPLE LARGELY INFLUENCES THE QUALITY OF CRYOPRESERVED MATERIAL. THE TEMPERATURE FIELD AND THE INFLUENCE ON IT IS INVESTIGATED WITH ROUTINELY USED PUNCHED CONTAINERS AND NEWLY DEVELOPED CONTAINERS FOR RAPID RED BLOOD CELL FREEZING. A SLOWLY COOLING CONTAINER WAS DEVELOPED FOR THROMBOCYTE CRYOPRESERVATION. THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT SAMPLE TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTIONS ON RED CELL RECOVERY WAS STUDIED IN THE PRESENCE OF THE CRYOADDITIVE HYDROXYETHYL STARCH (HES).
